Description

Research Overview

AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide) is a synthetic nucleoside analog widely studied in laboratory research for its ability to activate adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). It is commonly investigated for its role in cellular energy regulation, metabolic signaling, mitochondrial function, and glucose metabolism.

AICAR is an investigational research compound and is not approved for therapeutic use in humans. This material is supplied by Marsden Research Labs exclusively for qualified laboratory research applications and is not offered for human or veterinary use.

Mechanism of Action

AICAR is transported into cells where it is converted to ZMP (AICA ribotide), an AMP analog that activates adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Activation of AMPK influences numerous cellular pathways involved in energy homeostasis, glucose uptake, lipid metabolism, mitochondrial biogenesis, and cellular stress responses.

Because of its biological activity, AICAR is frequently investigated in metabolic research, exercise physiology, mitochondrial biology, and cellular energy regulation studies.

Current Areas of Research
