Description

Research Overview

Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP) is a naturally occurring 28-amino acid neuropeptide belonging to the secretin/glucagon peptide family. It is widely distributed throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems and is extensively studied in laboratory research for its interactions with VIP receptors (VPAC1 and VPAC2), neuroimmune signaling, smooth muscle physiology, inflammatory pathways, and cellular communication.

VIP is an investigational research peptide and has not been approved for therapeutic use in humans for the indications commonly studied in research. This material is supplied by Marsden Research Labs exclusively for qualified laboratory research applications and is not offered for human or veterinary use.

Mechanism of Action

VIP functions as an agonist of the VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, members of the class B G protein-coupled receptor family. Activation of these receptors stimulates cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent signaling pathways involved in smooth muscle physiology, neuroimmune communication, cytokine regulation, vasoregulatory signaling, and cellular homeostasis. Laboratory investigations utilize VIP to study neuropeptide signaling, receptor pharmacology, inflammatory biology, and communication between the nervous and immune systems.

Because of its biological activity, VIP is frequently investigated in neuroimmune signaling, VPAC receptor pharmacology, inflammatory pathway regulation, smooth muscle physiology, autonomic nervous system function, and peptide-mediated cellular communication.
